Every year, 47,000 people from around the world gather in Nijmegen for one shared goal: to walk. Four days, up to 50 kilometres per day, through rain or shine. The 4Daagse is not just a walking event — it is a celebration of perseverance, community, and the simple power of putting one foot in front of the other.
Why do people walk the 4Daagse?
Ask ten walkers and you’ll get ten different answers. Some walk for the challenge. Some walk in memory of a loved one. Some walk because their parents did, and their grandparents before them. Some walk simply because they want to prove something to themselves — that they can.
What unites them all is the finish line on Via Gladiola, where thousands of spectators line the streets to cheer every single walker home. It is one of the most moving moments in Dutch sporting culture.
The moments between the kilometres
The 4Daagse is as much about what happens off the route as on it. The evenings in Nijmegen, where walkers from dozens of countries share stories over dinner. The strangers who become friends by day two. The blisters compared like battle scars. The quiet pride of lacing up your shoes on day three when every part of you wants to stop.
What your feet go through
Over four days, the average walker takes more than 200,000 steps. Feet swell. Muscles ache. The right footwear — both during and after each stage — makes the difference between finishing strong and not finishing at all.
That’s why more and more 4Daagse walkers are packing recovery sandals alongside their walking shoes. After each day’s stage, slipping into a pair of VELOUS sandals gives feet the support and relief they need to be ready again the next morning.
Your story starts here
Whether it’s your first 4Daagse or your fifteenth, every walk tells a story. We’d love to hear yours. Share your experience with us — and make sure your feet are ready for every chapter.
VELOUS — made for the steps that matter most.
